What's this sermon about?

Over the next nine weeks, we’re inviting our whole church to journey together through The Good and Beautiful God by James Bryan Smith. This book helps us uncover and confront the false stories we often believe about God—stories that leave us weary, anxious, or unsure of His goodness. Instead, Smith leads us into the true story Jesus lived and taught: that God is loving, powerful, and deeply present in our everyday lives. Each chapter offers both practical steps and spiritual practices that move us beyond just “knowing about” God to actually experiencing Him in a new and life-giving way. As we read, reflect, and discuss together, our hope is that this series will not just inform our minds but transform our hearts. Don’t just listen in on Sundays—dive into the reading with us, lean into the practices, and discover for yourself the God who is better than you ever imagined.

Ice Breaker:

What’s something you’ve been really searching for in your life—whether big or small (like peace, purpose, a lost item, or the best burger in town)?

Weekly Book Reflections & Questions (found on pg 193):

Prayer:

Choose 1-2 bullet points below to pray on as you wrap up your time together.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.” – Philippians 4:6-7
  • Pray for honest reflection – Ask God to reveal the false stories we may be living by about who He is, and give us courage to face them with truth.
  • Pray for new desires – Invite God to reshape our hearts so that we genuinely long for the life Jesus offers, not just comfort or quick fixes.
  • Pray for transformation – Seek the Spirit’s power to move beyond knowing about God into actually experiencing His presence in our daily lives.
  • Pray for one another – Lift up group members by name, asking that each person would encounter God’s goodness in a personal and practical way this week

Remember, let's be specific in our prayers and personal in our requests for each other.
